Keep the next few hours manageable
Avoid long periods outdoors during the hottest part of the day, usually 11am to 3pm. Wear loose clothing, seek shade and close curtains or blinds against direct sun. Open windows when it is cooler outside, if safe. HSE advice, checked 2026-10-28.[1]

Water and care
Drink regularly and avoid alcohol. Check on older people and young children. If you have a prescribed fluid plan, follow your clinician’s advice rather than a general storage calculator. Babies need their own feeding guidance; do not apply adult water quantities to them. HSE advice, checked 2026-10-28.[1]
Get help when needed
Heatstroke is an emergency. Call 112 or 999 for serious illness or suspected heatstroke. Follow the HSE heat exhaustion and heatstroke guidance. Checked 2026-10-28.[2]
Prepare without a shopping list
Keep shade, water and check-ins in your household plan. Read the warning for your area. This page does not turn a weather warning into a prediction for an individual home.
